Makin' brownies
Yesterday Will and I embarked on the culinary adventure that is making brownies. Out of a box. Hey, it was a fancy box.
Will did an excellent job, though. Here's the process, in 12 easy steps (more fun than following boring old directions): Add a stick of butter to the chocolate chunks. Use a knife and fork to avoid actually touching the butter. Melt the butter and chocolate in the microwave (stoves and 4-year-olds not so compatible). Stir a lot. Pour the melted chocolaty goodness into the mixing bowl. Will is smirking with anticipation. Add the rest of the brownie mix and, um, mix. Butter the pan, again maintaining a safe distance from the butter itself (the wrapper will do). Cover the buttered pan with flour. Get flour on all conceivable surfaces in the kitchen. Crack two eggs into a little bowl (it's easier to retrieve bits of shell). Be sure to have extra eggs on hand for when you squeeze the cracked egg and it shoots across the counter. ;) Add the eggs to the awaiting heavenly glop. Will's smirking again. Probably because his favorite things are mud and chocolate. Fabulous. Like most boys, he has an appreciation for powerful engines. Go, mixer, go! Spread raw-egg laden brownie batter into pan. No, I don't see chocolate on the corners of Will's mouth. No need to call DCFS when he (and I) come down with a nasty case of salmonella. (Hey, at least I taught him not to double dip!) Smooth out the concrete, er, I mean brownie batter. He's obviously a pro at this part. Help Mom with the dishes. ;)
The camera battery croaked at this point. But I promise the finished product didn't go to waste. Delish!
