Will Knudsen: Star of the Week!

The first graders at Whittier take turns being the Star of the Week. What's the Star of the Week, you ask? He or she has the distinct honor of occupying the bulletin board in the hallway so everyone can see. And, he or she also may invite a special person to read a story to the class during fruit break.

Will had his turn the week of January 11. Unfortunately, that school week was cut short. Fortunately, it was to accommodate our trip to Florida! And it didn't hamper the most important parts of being the star. Will invited Omi to read If I Built a Car by Chris Van Dusen, a brightly-illustrated, rhyming, amusing story about a boy who shares his plans to build a car better than the rest.
Omi sure kept the kids' attention—I sat in back of the group, and all I could hear was the story and the crunching of fruits and veggies!

Ellie joined us, too, and Will's teacher Mrs. Richards was kind enough to accommodate her with a BIG box of crayons and paper. I could tell Elle felt like quite the big kid.
Finally, after a little confusion, Will's photos and facts appeared on the bulletin board (with one small error: Will wants a goldfish; we don't currently have pets).

Of course, a blog is cooler than a bulletin board (right?), and Will is always a star in our book. :)
