We viewed the launch from the roof of my parents' 26-story (I think) building. Even 190 miles away, it was amazing: the power, the anticipation, the simple fact we blast people into space. It was more spectacular than the little golden orb our camera captured.

Three... two... one...
Lucky us happened to be in Florida for the last "night" launch of space shuttle Discovery at o'dark chilly in the morning. We literally climbed out of bed for this one—can you tell?

After the shuttle had disappeared into orbit, it left behind a puff of smoke illuminated by the moon. Click the photo to see up close.
And this was the bright moon behind us.
How neat to see a little part of history. What's next?
