Every end has a start

This was the happy, if not eerie, end. Yes, it looked this yellow outside.
We spent most of the evening of June 23 in the basement. Burnett was alerted by the Chicago Police that severe storms were coming, and to be ready to seek shelter in the stairwells, away from windows. Andy had already participated in this drill during storms a few days earlier; looking at the radar, he decided to head home.

Jenn, Luca and Nico were over, and we watched the weather radar, not liking what we saw. Andy arrived on the train just as the deluge began. I picked him up in the train station parking lot, but he got drenched crossing the tracks.

By that time, the tornado watch had turned into a warning. While we were in the basement—still glued to the aforementioned radar, as well as WGN's weather and severe weather blogs—we were on the phone with Melissa across the street, whose husband had just been evacuated off the Metra train into shelter/train station—I can't remember *ever* hearing about a train evacuation for weather.

A tornado touched down on the south side of town, but I never did hear a report on the aftermath. Oak Brook seemed to sustain the most damage: Butterfield lost 35 trees, and a friend's in-laws had downed trees all over the yard, on top of three cars and their garage.

But, yellow sky and all, we lived happily ever after. :)
