When we visited the NYC Fire Museum, we couldn't have anticipated a visit from FDNY right outside our hotel! Andy and I (and Omi and Opa four floors above us) were rudely awakened in the wee hours (while our crazy children slept through the whole ordeal!) by an electrical fire that spread from a vault under the street to two poor autos parked curbside. The fire fighters got it under control -- thanks, Ladder 35! -- and conEdison crews spent the next two days replacing what seemed to be the entire electrical infrastructure of the Upper West Side. To their credit, we never lost power.
