A fond farewell to the bay
Our final full day in Florida, we took to the bay on a pontoon boat, piloted by Captain Dennis who promised to introduce us to a few local residents.
Grandpa helped Elle and Will take in the sights (and also brought a stash of M&Ms for a certain fussy little girl... luckily Grandma brought wine for her mommy!).
On the way, we spied our first resident: a shy manatee!
Grandma and Grandpa are going to have to help me remember the name of this bird. I know it sits with its wings outstretched to help its feathers dry.
A fine fisherman! Our captain said this particular fish was fun to catch, but doesn't taste very good.
It may be just another tree to Florida folk, but come on: it grows coconuts!
Where the river meets Estero Bay...
...and where the bay meets the Gulf of Mexico.
Enjoying the ride, and the company, of course!
(Proof I was there, too.)
Grandma cuddles Elle, despite her 2-year-old-ness. And oh my, is she 2!
Pelicans were Ellie's favorite. According to her, where there was one (the mommy), there always had to be another (the baby) nearby.
An osprey: quite impressive, especially if by "impressive" you mean "big!"
Thank you, Grandma and Grandpa for showing us such a fabulous time! We can't wait to visit again!
