A fond farewell to the bay

Our final full day in Florida, we took to the bay on a pontoon boat, piloted by Captain Dennis who promised to introduce us to a few local residents. Grandpa helped Elle and Will take in the sights (and also brought a stash of M&Ms for a certain fussy little girl... luckily Grandma brought wine for her mommy!). On the way, we spied our first resident: a shy manatee! Grandma and Grandpa are going to have to help me remember the name of this bird. I know it sits with its wings outstretched to help its feathers dry.A fine fisherman! Our captain said this particular fish was fun to catch, but doesn't taste very good. It may be just another tree to Florida folk, but come on: it grows coconuts! Where the river meets Estero Bay... ...and where the bay meets the Gulf of Mexico. Enjoying the ride, and the company, of course! (Proof I was there, too.)
Grandma cuddles Elle, despite her 2-year-old-ness. And oh my, is she 2!
Pelicans were Ellie's favorite. According to her, where there was one (the mommy), there always had to be another (the baby) nearby.
An osprey: quite impressive, especially if by "impressive" you mean "big!"
Thank you, Grandma and Grandpa for showing us such a fabulous time! We can't wait to visit again!
