First (half) day of first grade

Our baby is a first grader. He's now in school, learning about reading, writing and 'rithmetic (and science and social studies) from 8:25 to 2:40 every day. And yet, his first day—August 21 seemed way too early—was rather... anticlimactic.

We rushed to get ready (morning people, we're not), met up with friends every block on the way to school, Will stood in line for a second, the bell rang, and he went in. Poof! All we parents could do was try not to look like voyeurs as we walked past the first grade windows.

It was only a half day, so it didn't seem any different from kindergarten last year. Luckily, there are more than a few buddies in his class, including Katie.
A chipper, confident Will reported that they organized their school supplies and had a watermelon seed spitting contest. We celebrated afterward with lunch at Will's restaurant of choice: Scapa for chicken picante! (And don't forget to fill your pockets with "Scapa mints" on the way out!)
