A-ma(i)ze-ing

Our "sources" suggested we take a trip to Jonamac Orchard, near DeKalb. Not just for the apples, but for the incredibly intricate corn maze, pumpkin patch and sundry family fun.
It was a little cold. And muddy. But we were game. Will was much more enthusiastic than he appears. Ellie is guffawing.

One of our favorite quotes of the day—after spending a substantial chunk of the afternoon walking through this enormous field of corn—was Ellie exclaiming, "Corn!" as if she'd just noticed. Yes, Elle, corn.
Lots and lots of corn.
Despite the weather, the maze was a hoot. We had a map and a quiz to help us through, finding hidden wooden apples along the way (one was under Abe's nose).

Ellie is not one to turn down a pony ride, so after the maze we indulged her with a ride on Pickles.
And I was indulged with wading through corn in a mini silo.
How could you possibly turn down an opportunity to bury yourself in corn?
The kids played on (and under) a smaller, but more three-dimensional, maze of hay bales.
The kids and Daddy playing prince, princess and king (respectively) of the mountain of hay.
Funny, but we didn't pick any apples at the orchard—saved that for a warmer day with friends. But we brought home a peck, and apple cider, too. Then we ventured out to the pumpkin patch, where Will and Elle took a seat and discussed this year's crop.
We left with three great pumpkins of our own. I don't know, Grandma, it didn't look like a pumpkin shortage to us!
