A buggy birthday (in a good way)

Will celebrated his birthday with the boys from his class, Katie (by demand), and buddies Harris and Branden. They joined us at Lyman Woods for a bug bonanza. Who knew it would only be 62 degrees on July 1?
After a refresher on insects, the kids—practically bundled up— headed out to the woods.
Park district naturalist Miss Marge instructed the kids on catching perfect specimen. Note that Katie and Will are inseparable. ;)
The crew collected lots of little creepy crawlies!
All I can say is, Awwwww!

After the hike, the party reconvened inside for cupcakes covered in gummy bugs and cookie-crumb dirt (we had to reassure a couple of skeptics).
Clockwise from Will: Jack, Harris, Jarrett, Elle, Branden, Taylor, Kit, Ryan, Wil, Sam, Jackson, Eliot and Katie.
Finally, we tried to keep everyone from going buggy with indoor games. Here, Jackson is leading his fellow ants around the room. The party ended with a reading of "Are You a Ladybug?" and handing out Bug Jug goody bags.
I would be remiss if I didn't include Will with his spoils. It was all about good friends and good fun... but presents never hurt. ;)
